The Path to Priesthood: UST’s Newest Alumni
 An attorney, a refugee, and an engineering student aspiring to be an astronaut would seem like an unlikely trio with little in common. But these three men are united in faith with one common goal – to serve the will of God.
Fathers Tom Lam, Chris Nguyen and Christopher Plant graduated from the University of St. Thomas School of Theology at St. Mary’s Seminary and were ordained into the priesthood on May 31, 2008 at the Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart. They will serve Catholic parishes in the Houston area as parochial vicars for the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston.
Driven and happy in their personal pursuits and ambitions, they paused to hear call to the priesthood. And they answered. Ultimately they found greater personal success, happiness and a sense of completion in service to the Church.
 “Every person is endowed with different gifts and each person will bring something particular from their background to enrich the larger Church,” said Fr. Brendan Cahill, Rector of St. Mary’s Seminary. “We had an outstanding class of graduates at St. Mary’s this year, and we are proud to send Fr. Lam, Fr. Nguyen and Fr. Plant well-prepared to their first assignments as priests.”
